What this directory covers
For these rates, CONUS means the 48 contiguous U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Our state directory has 49 entries because Washington, DC is included and Alaska and Hawaii are not.
The complete source scope matters more than the number of pages. A national-looking list that silently assigns the standard GSA rate to Anchorage, Honolulu or San Juan would give the wrong impression of coverage.
Where to look outside CONUS
Rates for Alaska, Hawaii and U.S. territories and possessions are set by the Department of Defense. Rates for foreign countries are set by the Department of State. GSA’s rate page provides the official handoff to these sources.
Those systems may have different lodging-tax treatment, meal breakdowns, effective dates and other rules. This site does not extend its CONUS calculator to them merely by adding a place name.
A trip across systems needs separate handling
If an itinerary includes both CONUS and OCONUS locations, consult the applicable source for each location and your agency’s travel procedures. Our calculator accepts one CONUS work destination for the entire itinerary and rejects unsupported rate editions.
That boundary is also reflected in search: Alaska and Hawaii do not appear as covered states, and an unrecognized ZIP is not assigned the standard CONUS rate. Start at the official GSA rate page to locate the correct non-CONUS source.
